Children's necklaces pulled for unsafe lead levels

About 132,000 children's necklaces are being recalled because they contain high levels of lead, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The recall applies to silver fish pendant necklaces sold through the Oriental Trading Company Inc. website and catalogue from January 2005 through January 2007 for about 70 cents US.

Children absorb lead more easily than adults and are more vulnerable to poisoning. Exposure to high levels of lead can cause vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, coma or death. Symptoms include anemia, appetite loss, abdominal pain, constipation, fatigue, sleeplessness, irritability and headache.

No associated incidents or injuries have been reported to the company.

Consumers should take the recalled necklaces away from children and contact the company for a refund or credit.
