Fire threat for Acer computer batteries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 27,000 notebook computer batteries made by Sony.
The rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are at risk of overheating and could potentially catch fire.
The recall affects about 14 Acer notebook models with batteries having specific part numbers, sold between May 2004 and November 2006.
As previously reported, 16 notebook batteries have overheated. That prompted an earlier recall of other manufacturers' notebook computers with certain Sony batteries. The previous reports involved minor property damage and two minor burns. None of these reports involved batteries in Acer notebook computers.
Consumers with the affected notebooks should immediately stop using the recalled batteries, and contact Acer for a free replacement battery.
Consumers can continue to use Acer notebook computers safely, by turning the system off and removing the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power the system until the replacement battery is received.
For more information, call Acer at (800) 503-2330.
