Sliced turkey breast may contain salmonella

The maker of Lilydale poultry products is warning the public not to eat a certain type of its cooked seasoned sliced turkey breast because it may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

Lilydale Inc. of Edmonton says the meat was sold at Costco stores in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The one-kilogram packages, bearing the UPC code 065843935469, carry best before dates of either April 18 or April 19.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the sliced turkey, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says.

Foods tainted with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but the bacteria can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

People with weak immune systems are particularly vulnerable to salmonella poisoning.

Lilydale is recalling the product and has notified the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
