The hams that may be contaminated with salmonella were only sold through nofrills stores in Ontario, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says in an amended alert.
It originally warned about Siena Deli brand black forest ham on March 6. It has now amended the alert, adding that the hams were sold only in nofrills stores and changing the UPC code.
The code on the potentially contaminated packages, weighing 100 to 200 grams, is 0 203580, with a best before date of 07MR22. The code was originally reported to be UPC 0203580 101949.
There have been no reported illnesses linked to the product. Siena has recalled the hams.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but eating it can lead to serious and even deadly infections, especially among young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
For more information, call Siena at 416-239-3967 or 1-800-465-0422 or the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
