Canada Bread Company Ltd. is warning people with allergies to almonds not to consume one of its specialty breads because it may contain almonds, information not disclosed on the label.
Dempster's WholeGrains Prebiotic Barley & Sunflower bread, in the 680-gram size, was distributed only in Ontario, the company says.
The bread has a best before date of March 25 on the tan-coloured tag at the end of the bag and the product bears the UPC code 06872100262, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says.
Consumption of the bread may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to almonds, according to an agency news release.
The manufacturer, Canada Bread Company in Toronto, is recalling the product from the marketplace.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it has no reports of anyone becoming ill from eating the bread.
Consumers who have the affected product are advised to call 1-800-568-5801 to learn more about refunds or getting the product replaced.
