Consumers should immediately stop using Zoeller-brand septic pumps with 20-foot (6.1-metre) black cords, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
The 2,300 electric pumps have been recalled because they could shock users, the commission said.
The pumps have “Philippines” stamped on the plug. The date codes 0906 and 1006 are printed either on the nameplate on the top of the pump or on the tag near the plug.
The pumps were sold by Zoeller distributors across the U.S. from September 2006 through December 2006 for between $125 US and $375 US.
Consumers can contact the company for inspection, replacement and return of the pumps.
Pumps that had the plug removed when they were installed directly into a building are not covered by the recall.
