Conair recalls curling irons for shock, electrocution dangers

Conair is recalling about 322,000 curling irons because they could shock or electrocute users, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The handle of the ceramic curling iron can split apart, exposing an inner cord, the commission says.

No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall involves the ceramic 1-, 1¼- or 1½-inch barrel irons. Curling irons stamped with a date code in the range from November 2005 through July 2006 (for example, 0706) are included in the recall.

The curling irons were sold at U.S. retailers during January 2006 for about $25 US.

Consumers should return the curling iron for a free replacement.
