Best Buy Co. is recalling about 10,000 remote controls used with Insignia DVD players because they can overheat and pose a burn danger to users.
The recall, announced Thursday, involves the remote controls sold with the Insignia 100W DVD Compact Shelf System. The controls are marked with the model number NS-A1113.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that if the batteries are inserted into the remote control backwards, they could cause the unit to overheat. The company has received one complaint of a remote control overheating. No injuries were reported.
The products were sold at Best Buy stores throughout the U.S. and online from May 2006 through January 2007 with the 100W DVD players. The players sold for between $80 and $130 US.
Consumers with the affected remote controls should stop using them and contact the company for a free replacement.
