Tea lights recalled for fire hazard

About 46,800 tea lights are being recalled from the marketplace, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

A plastic shell around the tea lights, sold through retailer Sally Foster, may melt or catch fire, the CSPC said.

The company has received two reports of the shells catching fire, causing minor property damage. No associated injuries have been reported.

The lights were sold as part of a three-piece tea lights set in the Sally Foster catalogue and website with the item No. S106. Sets delivered after Dec. 8, 2006, are not included in the recall.

The tea lights were sold on the Sally Foster website from July 2006 through December 2006 for about $15 US. The products were also sold in Sally Foster catalogues from August 2006 through December 2006.

Consumers should stop using the tea lights and contact the company for free replacements.
