Sportsstuff is recalling about 11,000 inflator air pumps because they could overheat and explode, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
The pumps are used to inflate items such as rafts and toys. The company has received 52 reports of the pumps exploding. Thirteen have caused lacerations to the user.
The recall involves 2.5 PSI pumps with the model numbers numbers 57-1504-A and 57-1504. The model number and the date code 0104 are written on the top of each pump.
The air pumps were sold at boating stores, through mail-order catalogues and sporting good stores across the U.S. from January 2004 through January 2005 for about $50 US. Some pumps were sold with water trampolines sold at Sam's Club from January 2004 through August 2004 for about $375 US.
Consumers should stop using the product and contact the company for a free replacement.
