Allergy alert: undeclared peanuts in Visacard chocolate

People with allergies to peanuts and almonds should not eat Visacard brand chocolate, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Tuesday.

The maker of the product, imported from Hong Kong, failed to list peanuts and almonds on the ingredient labels, and the chocolates are being recalled from the marketplace. The recall involves Visacard 500g square boxes with the UPC 6 928294 220284, and 280g heart-shaped boxes with the UPC 6 928294 220123.

The products were sold in Ontario and may have been distributed across the country.

One associated incident of illness has been reported.

The product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in people with almond or peanut allergies, the agency said.
