2,000 desk lamps recalled for overheating hazard

About 2,000 halogen desk lamps are being pulled from the market because they may overheat and melt.

Keystore International is recalling its Globe lamps, which were sold across Canada, predominantly at Canadian Tire stores. Consumers should check the label on the base of the lamp for the model No. 52220 and factory ID: HXL (IV).

The lamp packaging says the lamps are to be used with a 50-watt bulb, but the lamp is certified for use with a 35-watt bulb. Use of a higher-watt bulb may cause the lamp to overheat.

No incidents of injury or damage have been reported. Consumers are asked to make sure they are using a 35-watt bulb in the lamp. Owners can contact Globe Electric to receive two free 35-watt bulbs or they can return the lamp to their local Canadian Tire for a refund.
