Skin-care product poses bacterial infection risk: Health Canada

An unauthorized product, Embrun de mer, contains high levels of harmful bacteria, Health Canada is warning consumers.

The federal agency warns that the product, marketed as a treatment for acne, eczema, psoriasis and athlete's foot, may cause a serious infection if used on broken or sensitive skin.

The product was sold in liquid form in 250 ml bottles as a Corporal and Facial Mist, and was available for purchase in health-food stores and naturopathic clinics in Quebec.

Quebec-based O de Mer Propulsion Inc. stopped making the product in July 2006 and is issuing a recall of the spray.

No adverse reactions associated with the product have been reported to Health Canada.

Consumers should stop using the product and call Health Canada at 613-957-2991, or toll free at 1-866-225-0709 with any questions.
