Chainsaws recalled for laceration hazard

About 76,000 Troy-Bilt and Craftsman brand chainsaws are being recalled because they may pose a laceration hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

The chainsaws were sold from in Canada and the United States from January 2004 through June 2006 at independent retailers and home improvement stores.

Importer MTD Southwest Inc. has reported the chainsaws' plastic handles can break. There have been two reports of burns and bruises when consumers lost control of the chainsaws when the handles broke.

The following four Troy-Bilt models are being recalled: 41AY00AR966, 41AY60AR766, 41AY90AR766 and 41AY08AR966. The model number of the Craftsman Incredi-Pull brand involved in the recall is 316.350840.

Consumers should stop using them immediately and contact MTD for more information. People who bought the chainsaws at Sears will be mailed service kits with replacement handles.
