ATV Utility winch kits recalled for overheating

About 218,000 Warn ATV and utility vehicle winch kits are being recalled from the marketplace, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced.

The company has reported that an element of the kit, the eight-post contactor, may continue to pull current even when its switched off. This failure can lead to overheating and pose a fire hazard.

The company has received one associated report of contactor failure. No injuries have been reported.

A complete listing of winch kit part numbers included in the recall is available on the company website www.warn.com.

The products were sold by ATV dealers, mail order catalogues, and online retailers from May 2001 through September 2005.

Consumers should disconnect the contactors from their batteries and contact their local dealer for a replacement.
