11 million bottles of acetaminophen recalled

Perrigo Company is recalling 11 million bottles of its acetaminophen bottles after finding metal fragment contamination.
There have been no reports of injuries or illness associated with the consumption of the pain relievers. The pills were not sold in Canada, a company spokesman told CBC.
The recall involves bottles containing various amounts of the 500-milligram capsules sold with private labels by 129 U.S. retailers including Wal-Mart, CVS Corp, Safeway and SuperValu.
The Michigan-based manufacturer of nonprescription drugs said it discovered the metal fragments during quality-control checks. About 70 million pills were sent through a metal detector that showed metal contamination in about 200 caplets, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Perrigo said 383 batches were contaminated and contained pills purchased from a third-party supplier.
Consumers who swallow the contaminated pills could experience stomach pain and cuts to the mouth and throat, the FDA reported. Serious injury is remote but consumers with concerns should contact their doctor.
