Starbucks recalls coffee brewers due to fire hazard
- October 17, 2006 2:10 PM
- By Peter Hadzipetros
Starbucks is voluntarily recalling its Barista Aroma stainless steel eight-cup coffee brewers because they pose a fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday.
The coffee brewer contains defective electrical wiring that can lead to overheating, smoking, burning, melting and possibly fire.
The company has received 23 reports of plastic on the machine melting. No injuries have been reported.
About 73,000 units were sold in Canada and the United States between March 2005 and September 2006. Consumers should stop using the coffee maker immediately and contact the company for a full refund.
