Consumers are being warned that L. Edmunds & Son Canadian Pure Maple Syrup may be contaminated with lead, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced.
The products involved in the recall were sold in Ontario in 500 ml, 540 ml, 1L, 2L and 4L metal containers.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the product. The federal agency warns that continued exposure to high levels of lead can damage the central nervous system, kidneys and blood. Children are particularly vulnerable to lead poisoning.
The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the voluntary recall.
For more information, consumers can contact Robert L. Edmunds at (705) 382-3630 or the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735.
