Allergy alert: Undeclared soy in Guenther's breads
- October 17, 2006 2:06 PM
- By Peter Hadzipetros
Consumers with allergies to soy should avoid certain whole wheat breads sold by Guenther's Bakery Ltd., the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has advised.
Guenther's Bakery, based in Milverton, Ont., failed to declare soy on its labels for its 60 per cent and 100 per cent whole wheat breads sold in 675-gram packages. These products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in people with soy allergies, the agency said.
The products, which were distributed in Ontario, are being voluntarily recalled from the marketplace. The CFIA has not received any reports of illnesses associated with their consumption.
