Sex enhancer may pose health risks, Health Canada warns

Health Canada is advising consumers that the natural health product Libidus contains an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient, vardenafil, which could pose serious health risks for patients with medical conditions.

Libidus, which is not authorized for sale in Canada, is marketed as a natural sex enhancer for men and women. The Canadian importer is recalling the product. Health Canada is warning Canadians who have purchased the product to discontinue use and consult a health professional with any concerns.

Individuals who are taking nitrate medication should avoid vardenafil because it could cause potentially life-threatening low blood pressure. Other serious side-effects include heart attacks, and in rare cases penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency.

No adverse reactions related to the use of this product have been reported to Health Canada.
Libidus is manufactured in Malaysia by Bio-Gulf Sdn Bhd and was imported into the country by Winnipeg-based NorthRegentRx.
