Pier 1 Imports recalls TV stands

Pier 1 Imports has issued a voluntary recall of about 4,300 Ming TV Stands because of a tipping hazard.

The unit can become unstable when pressure is applied to an open drawer, warns the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission The stand may tip and tilt forward, causing a television to slip off the unit.

Pier 1 has received one report of a death of a young child in Canada when a television fell from the stand. The CPSC has not received any reports of incidents in the U.S.

Ming TV Stands, SKU 2065368, were sold at Pier 1 stores and online through the company's website from August 2005 through February 2006 for about $250.

Customers are advised to immediately remove televisions or heavy items from the stands, and return them to the store for a refund or merchandise credit.
