Daimler Chrysler recalls 180,000 vehicles

DaimlerChrysler has announced two voluntary recalls of its vehicles due to safety concerns.

The company is recalling about 145,000 light-duty Dodge Ram pickup trucks and 35,000 Dodge Durango sport utility vehicles.

The automaker plans to replace the front passenger seatbelts and air bag packs on the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The trucks' air bags and seatbelts are not compatible with some child seats. Technicians will also reprogram the trucks' airbag computer systems.

In a separate action, the company is also voluntarily recalling 35,000 2001-2003 Dodge Durango SUVs to inspect the console wiring connector for corrosion or contamination. There have been 16 reports of fires with the Durango.

No injuries as a result of these concerns have been reported associated with either vehicle.

In Canada, the recalls involve approximately 13,500 Dodge Ram pickup trucks and 900 Dodge Durango SUVs.
