A section of the Eiffel Tower stairway, weighing 700 kg, will be offered for sale at Paris auction on Nov. 19.
The staircase, which spans 4.5 metres, is expected to attract bids of as much as 20,000 euros ($27,000 Cdn) at the Drolet auction house.
The spiral staircase between the second and third levels of the tower was dismantled and removed when the tower underwent a massive renovation completed in 1983. The staircase was cut into sections and auctioned off.
Completed in 1889 under the supervision of Gustave Eiffel, the tower measures 324m and is made of 18,038 pieces. The tower, now renowned as a romantic emblem of Paris, attracts six million tourists annually.
