An inmate who was mistakenly released from a Texas prison 36 years early has been re-incarcerated after he ran into his victim in a bar and apologized for partially blinding him.
In 2003, Cedric Thomas was shot in the head at a Houston sports bar and left blind in one eye.
His assailant, Willie Joe McAdams, was sentenced to four decades in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In early July, Thomas was stunned to see McAdams approach him in a bar. Thomas said McAdams shook his hand and apologized for shooting him.
It turned out that a clerical error had led to McAdams's release in May after serving only four years.
McAdams was re-arrested Thursday. Authorities are investigating the mistaken release.
