Japanese pet owners seeking to pamper their aging pooches on Friday will be able to check them into a new nursing home built especially for dogs.
The Soladi Care Home for pets in Tochigi in eastern Japan will provide 24-hour care and specially fortified meals.
Dogs will also be encouraged to stay active through designated playtime with puppies.
The company will charge a monthly fee of 98,000 yen ($858 Cdn).
Lavish luxuries for pets are common in Japan, with retailers offering Burberry, Prada and Gucci dog leashes and trenchcoats.
In December 2005, Japan's Pet Inn Royal at Tokyo's Narita International Airport opened its doors. The 170-room hotel has an exercise field, deluxe suites, grooming and veterinary services for as much as $200 a night.
