Musician screams for new ice-cream truck jingles

Tired of the old ice cream truck standbys, musician Michael Hearst has crafted a new set of modern jingles he hopes will bring the kids running — including Where Do Ice Cream Trucks Go In The Winter? and Ice Cream Yo!.

Brooklyn-based Hearst plays the glockenspiel, melodica and chord organ on the new 13-track album, which he has been selling on his website and will release in stores on Tuesday.

"I had no hard and fast rules as to how to make an ice cream truck song," Hearst told Reuters. "They had just better make people want to buy ice cream."

Other songs on the album include The Sprinkle Twinkle, Tones for Cones and The Popsicle Parade.

Daniel Handler alter ego Lemony Snicket, of the A Series of Unfortunate Events books, has offered high praise for the new album.

"Whenever I listen to this album I find myself screaming. Shouldn't you scream? Shouldn't we all scream for this album?" he says on the album website.

Vendors in South Carolina and Oregon have started to play the album on their truck speakers.
