Free food for fashion models

The old adage that there are no free meals is proving to be false, at least for underweight models in London, England, for fashion week.

Bumpkin restaurant in the Notting Hill district is offering the free fine fare to models with a Body Mass Index of less than 18.

"If I could recommend a dish to a Size 0 model, it would be a charter pie containing leeks, chicken and bacon; it's enough to keep you warm and energized all day," Bumpkin general manager Dariush Nejad said in a statement according to Reuters.

Underweight models have been the subject of serious scrutiny over the past year, after Madrid banned women with a BMI – a calculation based on height and weight — lower than 18. The United Nations suggests healthy adults should have a BMI of between 18.5 and 25.

Officials in Britain followed suit, with Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell calling for a reform of the modelling industry during London's fashion week. However, fashion show organizers refused to ban underweight models from the catwalk, saying such a ban would interfere with the designers' visual presentation.
