Wine veto ends grape debate in California

The Associated Press - A veto by U.S. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has put a cork on a measure that would have singled out Zinfandel for recognition as the "historic" wine of California.
California produces many fine wines from different grape varieties, the governor noted in his veto message Tuesday.
"It would be a shame to recognize only one as 'California's historic wine,' " Schwarzenegger wrote.
Zinfandel grapes have been planted in California since the Gold Rush days. The bill by state Senator Carole Migden said California is the only region in the world where "old vine" Zinfandel is found, with some vines producing grapes after more than 100 years.
"It ought not to be a zin to be for Zinfandel," Migden punned after the veto.
