Think of it as a particularly awesome lunchtime bookfair, the only one in Toronto where you can mingle with some of the country's most celebrated authors, a few mysterious RSVP'd celebs -- and gawk at Jian Ghomeshi from the comfort of the CBC atrium.
Canada Reads launches Wednesday, Nov. 27. You've familiarized yourself with the audience-selected Top 10, but the final reading list will be revealed on CBC Radio's Q Wednesday at 10 a.m./10:30NT. The five homegrown stars defending those titles will be announced, too. And once they've all chattered -- in passionate and yet somehow soothing tones -- about why their favourite novels could completely transform our country, they're taking the competition out of the studio and straight to the public.
Starting at noon ET, Canada Reads will dominate the CBC Connects stage in the atrium of Toronto's Broadcast Centre. Hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, the event will introduce you to the Canada Reads books, their authors and this year's panel of A-listers. You'll get to shop for the Top 5 titles right in the space, and as a bonus, you can stick around for an autograph signing.
Just arrive at 250 Front St. and you'll be a part of the excitement. You can watch it from anywhere with a working internet connection, too. CBC Books and the Canada Reads website will be livestreaming the action starting at noon ET.
The 2014 debates begin March 3, 2014. Stay tuned for more info.
CBC Connects returns to the atrium stage Wednesday, Dec. 4.
