Tweeting Canada to Americans
By Jennifer Hollett
Just down the street from New York's inconic Times Square, in between yellow taxicabs, knock off purses and street eats, is a wall of tweets. As a street team yells out "Win a trip to Canada," a multimedia, interactive display showcases micro-thoughts about travelling the country.
"Recognizing that it (social media) plays a key role in travel decision making, and how people are influenced and inspired, we wanted to take advantage of converging the technology," explains Siobhan Chretien, the Executive Director of Americas Marketing with the Canadian Tourism Commission. The CTC recently launched what they call "digital storescapes" on the streets of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
