Five questions for Michael Bobbie
Five Questions is a feature on the newsroom blog that profiles people on the Connect team. This week, writer Michael Bobbie answers five questions.
Let's start with your full name, which is how you are addressed on the Connect team. How did you end up with two first names?
"Bobbie" is an unremarkable Ukrainian name, and I usually introduce myself as "Mike" or "Michael" unless the situation calls for more formality. Despite this, everyone eventually comes around to calling me by my full name. Apparently it's fun to say and rolls off the tongue naturally. I'm occasionally worried that people will think it's a hyphenated first name like "Billy-Bob," but that's the price I pay for a memorable name.
You describe yourself as a "dangerously insane blithering maniac." Do go on.
Well let's just say that a daily news show like Connect involves some pretty intense deadline pressure. You know those old movies about journalists like His Girl Friday? Journalists are always fast-talking loud-mouths pounding away at their typewriters at machine-gun speed. That's kind of like Connect, except with computers and less cigarette smoke. I am definitely an inmate in that asylum.
