Five Questions is a feature on the newsroom blog that profiles people on the Connect team. This week, producer Natalie Ruskin answers five questions. What do you do on the show?
My main focus is producing tape segments like "The Fix." But, when there's a breaking news story like Haiti or swine flu, I become part of the team effort to help get good stuff on the air quick. I'll put on my chase producer hat or I'll put on my tape producer hat. When I'm not assigned to top stories, I'm on the hunt for "The Fix." These two-part segments are super tough because, not only do they require both chase and tape producing hats but, the research can be grueling and frustrating. The key is to find a unique solution in one Canadian community that could be used to solve a problem in a different Canadian community. The journey with these pays off when you find a good match (check out the foodbank Fix.)
