Weightlifters round out Commonwealth Games team

Veterans Christine Girard and Marilou Dozois-Prevost will lead Canada's weightlifting team at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.

The weightlifting team was the final Canadian squad to be named for the at the Oct. 3-14 Games.

Girard, a native of White Rock, B.C., and a fourth-place finisher at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will make her third Commonwealth appearance.

Dozois-Prevost, from Candiac, Que., captured a silver medal four years ago in Melbourne, Australia.

Canada qualified a full weightlifting team of eight men and seven women.

Jasvir Singh of Burnaby, B.C., who was born in Karna, India, makes his first Commonwealth Games appearance since earning his Canadian citizenship.

"I feel extremely proud and happy," Singh said in a release. "These Games will be one of the most memorable competitions of my life."

Weightlifting competition runs Oct. 3-12.
