Montreal art and food gets nod from international design mag. Fashion, not so much.

The City of Montreal, along with a lot of individuals, has been working hard to put the city on the world design map.

And all those efforts seem to be paying off. Last month, Montreal architecture firm Saucier + Perrotte was honoured in the Wallpaper magazine design awards.

And now, international design magazine FRAME has dedicated 20 pages to Montreal.

The dossier highlights public art and restaurants in the city.

But the author of the introductory essay, Sarah Fletcher, writes "some consider Montreal the fashion capital of Canada but the city is less fasion-forward on an international stage. Montrealers are not afraid to mix prints with colours or second-hand frippery with high-end couture. Perhaps more expressive than flattering, the effect ranges from gutsy to nostalgic."
