Search and Rescue in Gander Wins an International Award
A Cormorant helicopter crew from 9 Wing Gander has received a prestigious international award for a daring rescue mission a year ago.The award recognized their heroic actions in saving the lives of two Inuit hunters stranded in icy waters near Igloolik, Nunavut. Three SAR technicians from 8 Wing Trenton also shared in the award. Sadly one of those technicians lost his life during the mission. He received the award posthumously.On Tuesday, the crew from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron - Gander - accepted the Award of Gallantry from the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators in London, England. Captain Dean Vey was First Officer on the mission.
