 Riding Map
This riding contains Barrie, a resort and service-oriented city set on the western shores of Lake Simcoe in central Ontario.
The western boundary is County Road 27 and the Barrie city limits.

Tourism and manufacturing are primary sources of employment. The average family income is $67,380 and unemployment is 5.7 per cent.

In 2004, the former riding of Barrie-Simcoe-Bradford was reduced in size to reflect the growing population of the city of Barrie. Barrie-Simcoe-Bradford was established in 1996 by merging parts of Simcoe Centre and York Simcoe.

Population: 103,710

Political History

In 2004, Liberal Aileen Carroll was re-elected, defeating Conservative hopeful Patrick Brown by 1,295 votes. It was her third term. Paul Martin named Carroll minister for international co-operation in 2003.

Simcoe Centre was the only Ontario riding ever to elect a Reform candidate – Ed Harper in 1993. It had been a Tory stronghold until 1988.

Patrick Brown

Party: Conservative Party of Canada

Year of Birth: 1978
Education: Four years at the University of Toronto for political science. He graduated from law school at the University of Windsor in 2004. Has studied extensively in French at l'University de Trois Rivieres
Profession: Lawyer

Career background: Served under MPP Toni Skarica as a special assistant to Ministry of Finance and Solicitor General's Office (1995-2000). Served on attorney general's policy advisory committee (2001-2003). Worked in law department of a multinational corporation in the fields of labour and immigration law (2002-2004). Currently, he is a local Barrie lawyer based on Collier St. He practises criminal, civil litigation and commercial law. He is executive secretary of International Youth Democratic Union. Has worked with world leaders, including former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Australian Prime Minister John Howard on this endeavour. He has represented Canada on a number of international assistance projects hosted by the IYDU. Municipal involvement: Currently chair of finance committee, board member of Barrie Hydro, Gryphon Theatre, Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority, Barrie Physician Recruitment Task Force, Barrie's Public Library. Former member of following committees: City Development, Youth Services, Safe City, Artificial Ice Rinks, East Bayfield Building, Barrie Community Sports Complex, Performing Arts, Barrie Tourism and Convention Bureau and International Relations

Career background: Taught conversational English in South Korea for three years.

Community activities: He serves as director and chair of Environmental Action Barrie - Living Green, a local charitable organization. He was the founding member of the Mayor's Task Force on Affordable Housing in Barrie. He is also a volunteer for the Out of the Cold program and a longtime foster parent of children in Haiti.
