Young Blood: The freshest candidates on the campaign trail

We asked the youngest candidate running for each of the major federal parties the same 8 questions. Given the apathetic attitude that has been attributed to most youth, we wanted to know why they were moved to become active in politics and how they got started. Vahid Fortin-Vidah

Conservative - Vahid Fortin-Vidah
Age: 22
Riding: Matapedia-Matane, QC

In Brief: Vahid Fortin-Vidah has been actively involved in student unions and human rights groups for 10 years. He was an organizer with the Concordia University Student Union. Most recently, he has been working as a freelancer for a the Journal L'Avant-Poste in Amqui, QC and is the CEO of his own multimedia start-up, according to a Conservative Party of Canada press release. He graduated from Champlain St-Lambert College in 2000 and completed a certificate in public relations at Concordia University in 2003.

Riding: Eglinton-Lawrence, ON

Brief Bio: Max Silverman has been involved in 6 political campaigns, starting when he was 9 years old. He has been active in the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War, the Coalition for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine, Ontario New Democratic Youth and other organizations. He has just completed his final year of high school at Northern Secondary school.

Riding: Charlesbourg, QC

In Brief: Mari-Lou Moisan-Domm is keeping a close eye on another riding in Quebec. Her grandmother, Jeannine T. Desharnais is running in the riding Beauport, Quebec. At the age of 74, she has also chosen to represent the Green Party in this year's federal election.

Riding: Saint-Maurice Champlain, QC

In Brief: Marie-Eve Bilodeau is an adviser by profession, who has been involved with the Liberal Party for almost 10 years. She is a graduate of Shawinigan College who has also studied at the University of Ottawa. Most recently she was a legislative assistant and political advisor to the Minister of Industry Canada for the Province of Quebec. From 1999-2001 she was a political assitant to Senator Lucie Pepin. This riding has been held by former Prime Minister Jean Chretien for the majority of the last 40 years.

Bloc Quebecois - Micael Poirier
Age: 20
Riding: Laval-Les Isles, QC

In Brief: Micael Poirier is an interviewer/pollster with Ipsos-Reid. He completed his degree and is currently studying at College Montmorency in Laval, QC. He has been involved in politics at the provincial level since 2002, when he was a youth counsellor on the Parti Quebecois executive in the Fabre riding. He has been a member of the Bloq Quebecois' youth wing, Forum jeunesse du Bloc Quebecois since 2002. He was also the vice-president of the student Parti Quebecois club at College Montmorency from 2002 to 2003. He ran unsuccessfully for the Parti Qubecois in the riding of Nelligan in 2003.
