This Greater Toronto Area riding lies within the city of Mississauga, and includes some of the city's oldest neighbourhoods, such as Lorne Park, Lakeview, Port Credit and Clarkson.

The borders run from Dundas Street and the Queensway in the north to the shoreline of Lake Ontario in the south. In the west, its borders start at Winston Churchill Boulevard and the city limits of Mississauga, and in the east it ends at Etobicoke Creek.

According to the 2001 census, the immigrant
population was over 34 per cent. Manufacturing, retail trade and service sectors are major employers. Average family income is $95,918 and unemployment is 4.9 per cent.

In 2004, the riding has added new neighbourhoods north of the Queen Elizabeth Way. Mississauga South riding was created in 1976 and used to be called Mississauga riding. In 1996, it expanded its boundary in the northeast.

In 2000, Liberal Paul Szabo defeated Alliance candidate Brad Butt to win a third term of office.

In 1979, PC Don Blenkarn won in the newly created Mississauga South riding. Blenkarn had been elected in Peel South in 1972 and defeated in Mississauga in 1974. He then defeated Szabo in 1980 and 1984 and another Liberal, Gil Gillespie, in 1988. By the 1993 election, Blenkarn was running third, behind the Reform candidate.
