1997, 2000: LIB
In 2000, Liberal Murray Calder defeated Alliance candidate Don Crawford
to win a second term in the former riding of Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey.
In 1993, Calder defeated former PC cabinet minister Perrin Beatty by 1,770 votes.
Beatty was elected in 1979 in Wellington-Dufferin-Simcoe
and held office for four terms. He was minister of national defence,
health and welfare and communications, as well as solicitor general.
Given the combined PC and Alliance vote from 2000, this may be a close race in 2004.
