Riding Profile
This riding includes the eastern part of the city of Laval, where several companies have their head offices. It stretches north from Rivière-des-Prairies to Rivière-des-Milles Iles, east to the top of Ile Jesus and west to des Laurentides Boulevard and Rue Riopelle.
The workforce depends on manufacturing and the service industry. The average family income is $66,683 with an unemployment rate of 5.4 per cent.
According to the 2001 census, 77 per cent have French as a mother tongue and over eight per cent have Italian as a mother tongue. The total immigrant population is over 11 per cent. Over 10 per cent of the population has less than a Grade 9 education, but over 11 per cent have a university degree.
In 2004, the riding's name was changed from Laval East to Alfred-Pellan. The previous western boundary was the CP Line and Boulevard des Laurentides. The riding was established in 1966 as Duvernay. The name was changed from Duvernay to Laval East in 1990. There was no change in the 1996 redistribution.

Political History
In 2000, Liberal Carole-Marie Allard defeated Bloc Québécois candidate Mathieu Alarie by 1,292 votes to win a first term.
In 1968 in Duvernay, Liberal Eric Kierans won by 2,476 votes. He was appointed Minister of Revenue and Minister of Health in 1966, Postmaster General in 1968 and Minister of Communications in 1969. He resigned from cabinet in 1971 and did not run in 1972.
Liberal Yves Demers won four terms from 1972 to 1980, but was defeated in 1984. PC Vincent Della Noce won in 1984 and 1988, but he came third in 1993. In that same year, Jean Chrétien appointed Raymonde Folco as the 1993 Liberal candidate. In the 1993 general election, BQ Maud Debien defeated Folco by 15,221 votes. She won a second term in 1997, defeating Liberal Nathalie Paradis.
