Body found in Rideau River believed to be Brampton student

Ottawa police have been in contact with the family of a missing 18-year-old university student from Brampton, Ont., after the body of a woman was found in the Rideau River over the weekend.
An autopsy was to be performed Monday to identify the body and determine the cause of death but in the meantime, police have spoken with the family of Nadia Kajouji about the discovery, acting Staff Sgt. Kal Ghadban said Sunday.

Kajouji was last seen in her dorm room at Carleton University on March 9.
Police said in a news release that there are no indicators of foul play.
A boater spotted the body washed up on the shore of the Rideau River near St. Paul University Sunday morning. It was recovered by emergency services personnel shortly afterward, Ghadban said.
"It does appear she's been in the water for some time," he added.
Nadia's father, Mohamad Kajouji, has told reporters that the body of his 18-year-old daughter, Nadia Kajouji, was recovered from the river on Sunday.
Samy Mahmoud, Carleton University's acting president and vice-chancellor, issued a statement Sunday responding to the news.
"After widespread collective efforts to find Nadia safe and sound, this is the saddest possible outcome for her family, friends and classmates," he said.
Kajouji's family and friends undertook a massive search effort after her disappearance. At the time, she had told a friend she was going skating.
Police investigated the incident, but always maintained there was no reason to suspect foul play.
The family later confirmed that investigators told them Kajouji had been depressed and suicidal.
