Thick plumes of smoke from a major industrial fire in Brampton, Ont., caused police to close a major highway for several hours during the morning rush-hour commute.
Smoke from a recycling plant fire in Brampton, Ont., caused the temporary closure of Highway 407 between highways 410 and 427 on Tuesday morning.
(CBC)
Highway 407 between 410 eastbound and 427 westbound reopened around 9 a.m. ET after firefighters got the fire under control.
The shutdown was caused by heavy smoke billowing from a blaze at a metal recycling plant, which reduced visibility on roads in the area.
Firefighters were called to the plant around 5:30 a.m. after a shredder caught fire at the Triple-M Metals plant. No one was injured in the blaze.
Environment Ministry officials tested the air quality and determined there is no health risk.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
