Cyclist dies after collision with city dump truck

Last Updated: Friday, June 8, 2007 | 12:16 PM ET

A cyclist has died after colliding with a City of Toronto dump truck on a street in North York early Friday morning.

The 48-year-old man was bicycling south on Bayview Avenue near Highway 401 around 8 a.m. ET when the accident with the dump truck, which was towing a trailer, occurred.

Toronto police Staff Sgt. Keith Haines said the collision happened when the road narrows from four lanes to two, but it's unclear yet what caused it.

The victim, who has not been identified, is the first cyclist to die on Toronto roads this year.

Police are still investigating and are asking for witnesses to come forward.
