Gerard Kennedy was named the federal Liberal candidate for the Toronto riding of Parkdale-High Park on Tuesday.
The former Liberal leadership hopeful didn't have any competition for the nomination.
Kennedy was the only name on the ballot after former Liberal MP Sarmite Bulte threw her support behind the special adviser on election readiness and party renewal.
Bulte decided not to challenge Kennedy despite her party's stated commitment to boost the ranks of women candidates, even by barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings.
Kennedy held the riding for 10 years as a provincial politician and cabinet minister.
The Liberals lost the seat during the 2006 election, when New Democrat Peggy Nash was elected to the House of Commons.
