CBC News coverage of the Obama visit

CBC brings extensive live coverage to Canadians starting at 6 a.m. Thursday

Canadians can turn to CBC News for comprehensive live coverage of the highly anticipated visit to Ottawa by U.S. President Barack Obama this Thursday, Feb. 19.

Beginning at 6 a.m. ET, CBC News will capture all angles of the day's events. See programming details below.

CBC Television and CBC Newsworld

Thursday, Feb. 19: At 6 a.m. ET on CBC Newsworld, Heather Hiscox takes Canadians through the morning from Obama's arrival on Parliament Hill. Hiscox will be joined by CBC News reporters Rosemary Barton, Paul Hunter and Margo McDiarmid, all on the ground in Ottawa to take the pulse from the crowds.

From 10 a.m. ET to 12 p.m. ET, viewers can watch CBC News Special: Barack Obama in Canada on CBC Television and CBC Newsworld with live coverage of Obama's visit. From 2:30 to 4 p.m. ET, CBC News will air the news conference and the President's departure from Parliament Hill. The CBC Newsworld Politics team will continue the coverage from 4 to 6 p.m. ET. From 7:30 to 9 p.m. ET, on CBC Newsworld, Don Newman hosts a special live edition of CBC News: Politics, recapping the day's highlights.

On CBC News: The National, CBC News chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge is joined by the At Issue panel to share their perspective on the President's first foreign visit. The National airs at 10 p.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Television and 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT on CBC Newsworld.

Canadians can follow the action and participate online with the CBCNews.ca political team as they live blog, beginning at 10 a.m. ET.

CBCNews.ca will also carry live-streamed video of Obama's visit starting at 10 a.m. ET, comprehensive background information and analysis, photo galleries, viewpoints from special columnists. Columnists include former Canadian diplomat Jeremy Kinsman and Washington Correspondent Henry Champ and a soldier's perspective from veteran Sgt. Russell Storring; they will all provide perspective on the day. Canadians can also view CBC News' exclusive interview with Obama in the White House.

CBC Radio One

As part of CBC News Special: Barack Obama in Canada, CBC Radio will air extensive coverage throughout the day, including live coverage of the news conference airing at 2:30 p.m. ET and hourly updates on Radio One and Radio Two. Listeners can hear all of the day's events with hosts Kathleen Petty, from CBC Radio's popular political program The House, and Chris Hall, National Affairs editor, who will be joined by James Blanchard, former American Ambassador to Canada.

CBC Radio's national news program The World at Six, at 6 p.m. (6:30 p.m. NT), will feature a special report on the day's events.
