A steel pipe that fell off a parked truck killed two construction workers and injured three others near a Montreal-area overpass where they were working Thursday.
The workers were unloading a truck that was carrying heavy pipes being used in the repair of an overpass south of Montreal, Quebec provincial police told the Canadian Press.
The workers had untied several yellow straps that secured the load in place on a truck when the pipe rolled off and hit them.
Of the three injured workers, one suffered a broken arm and the two others were treated at the scene for shock, police said.
Initial news reports wrongly said that a piece of highway overpass had collapsed in Candiac, Que., trapping two workers.
Last September, an overpass collapsed in Laval, Que., killing five people. A provincial inquiry is underway looking into the collapse.
