Winnifred Bertrand of Montreal appears to have taken over the title of world's oldest woman.
Bertrand, who turned 115 years on Sept. 15, assumed the title when Elizabeth Bolden died on Nov. 11 in Memphis, Tenn., at age 116, according to Montreal's La Presse newspaper.
There's only one person in the world older than Bertrand — a Puerto Rican man who is 26 days older, the French-language newspaper reported on Saturday.
Originally from Coaticook, Que., Bertrand never married, has no children and now lives in a nursing home in Montreal.
She still has a sister-in-law who is 88 and lives in Coaticook, as well as a number of nephews and nieces in the Montreal area.
Bertrand is the second Quebecer in recent years to claim the title of world's oldest woman.
The first, Marie-Louise Meilleur, died at the age of 117 in 1998.
