Police dog stabbed in Saskatoon

A police dog was stabbed Saturday morning as officers tried to apprehend two people caught in the act of stealing a vehicle in Saskatoon, police said.

The animal is reported to be recovering from two stab wounds, one to the head and another in the chest.

The dog was assisting police attempting to apprehend two suspects who were caught trying to steal vehicle in the 200 block of St. Paul's Place, according to a police news release.

Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man, but a second suspect got away.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the animal was being treated at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, where it received a blood transfusion.
