The organization representing First Nations in Saskatchewan opens a call centre to handle questions about the H1N1 vaccine.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says the special toll-free number — 1-800-956-6442 — is needed because of the large volume of calls it's getting.
"The FSIN is receiving numerous calls daily from First Nations individuals, communities and organizations," Dutch Lerat, a vice-chief, said in a release.
He said questions ranged "from the availability of the H1N1 vaccine to the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine."
"Providing information on H1N1 is the right thing to do during this time," he added. "When people become educated on a health issue they become empowered."
The FSIN said it would use information from Saskatchewan's medical health officer to field questions.
