Two people died in a traffic accident early Thursday morning, after a small truck flipped and landed in a water-filled slough west of Prince Albert, Sask.
It happened shortly after midnight close to Shell Lake, 96 kilometres west of the city.
A woman, 27, from the Ahtahakoop First Nation who was found in the driver's seat of the submerged truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man, 29, from Shell Lake who was found in the water outside the truck was also pronounced dead on the scene.
A man from Prince Albert managed to escape the vehicle. He sustained only minor injuries and was taken to hospital in Shellbrook.
Police said local farmers used tractors to pull the truck from the water. Excessive speed and icy roads are believed to have been factors in the crash, police said.
RCMP haven't released the names of the victims.
